Frequently asked questions
Which SHL test will I get?
Your SHL invitation (usually through TalentCentral) or the employer's email names it. SHL has single Verify tests (Numerical, Verbal, Inductive, Deductive, Checking, Calculation, Reading Comprehension, Mechanical), the combined Verify G+, the Verify Interactive versions, a situational judgement test and the OPQ. If you do not know, practise numerical, verbal, deductive and inductive: that covers G+ and the most used single tests.
What is Verify G+?
Verify G+ is one test of 30 questions in 36 minutes: ten numerical, ten deductive and ten inductive, mixed and adaptive (the difficulty adjusts to your answers). Here you practise the three parts separately, in fixed sets with explanations, and then together: the three timed practice tests at the bottom of this page each have 30 questions in 36 minutes, ten per part, mixed. Our clock and score are Assessly's, not an SHL norm.
What is Verify Interactive?
The mobile version of Verify: you drag bars in a chart, rank people or tap cells in a grid instead of clicking an option. Each test takes eighteen minutes. Read our explanation of the three interactive tasks; the reasoning is practised here as multiple choice.
In which language is the test?
The employer decides. Many Dutch employers run the SHL tests in English; SHL's own Dutch practice page offers only verbal and numerical in Dutch. So practise in the language of your invitation: this page exists in English and in Dutch with the same parts.
Can you prepare for an SHL test?
Yes. SHL itself publishes example questions and practice tests (SHL Direct) and says they familiarise you with the question forms and that the real test's difficulty may differ. The same holds for our sets: you learn the forms, the pace and the traps, with an explanation for every answer.
How does SHL's situational judgement test work?
You get a work situation with several responses and rate each response separately on a scale from highly undesirable to highly desirable. Our situational judgement practice has you choose the best response: the same judgement, a different answer form.
Are these the real SHL questions?
No. All questions are Assessly's own, written in the forms SHL shows in its own examples. The clock, the number of questions and the score are our own practice measure; SHL reports a percentile against a norm group, which we cannot reproduce.
What does this practice not cover?
The drag interactions of Verify Interactive, the simulations (contact centre, Excel, coding, email writing), the video interview, the assessment centre, the questionnaires without right answers (OPQ, behaviour-based, biodata; do look at the OPQ example) and the Working with Information test, of which SHL publishes no example. Reading Comprehension and Mechanical Comprehension are practised with our general texts and mechanics questions; SHL publishes no example screen of those.
CEB, Gartner or SHL?
The same tests. SHL was part of CEB from 2012 to 2018 and briefly of Gartner, and has been SHL again since 2018. An invitation for a "CEB test" or "Gartner assessment" is an SHL test.
Why this site
